What are virtues and why are they important?

Virtues are the building blocks of character. It is made up of attitudes, dispositions, or character traits that empower us to be and to act in ways that help us reach our potential. Some of the more commonly known virtues include Honesty, courage, compassion, generosity, fairness, self-control, and resilience.

Preparing young children to flourish not just in school but in life, requires much more than focusing on teaching academic subjects like ABCs and 1-2-3s. Successful students tend to display a high emotional intelligence. They have well-developed social skills that enable them to actively participate in their classroom environments and interact with other children. With a dedicated character building curriculum in preschools, children will be much more equipped to navigate the world beyond kindergarten.

Building character at Invictus International Preschool

Here at Invictus International Preschool, we implement The Virtues Project™ and it serves as the foundation for all we do - nurturing the children's character and our relationships, enabling a positive, peaceful and co-operative learning environment for all. To nurture every child with the skills and qualities they need to be successful in school and in life. The Virtues Project™ is an internationally recognised tool that fosters academic excellence while empowering educators to create a community-like culture of care, trust and unity in the classroom. It was honoured by the United Nations during the Year of the Family as a “model global program for families of all cultures”.

The Virtues Project is based on the beliefs and virtues valued by diverse cultures and world religions. Its mission is to provide empowering strategies that inspire the practice of virtues in everyday life. Preschools, schools, universities and community groups dedicated to supporting character development implement the Virtues Project.

In our Invictus Preschool classrooms, children will experience the virtues through various hands-on activities like storytelling, show and tell and more! Each virtue is inculcated through the 5 Strategies of the Virtues Project. We focus on a specific virtue every week so that over time, the children gain a deeper understanding of what each virtue means and how they can practice virtues in their daily lives.
